The Reface Community Guidelines: what you need to know
What types of content and activities are acceptable, and which ones aren’t
Today we’re taking a step forward in building the Reface community by publishing Community Guidelines. We understand that having new rules might not seem like a positive thing, so let me explain why we’re doing this and how it will actually benefit you.
Community Guidelines are a clear list of expectations — what types of content and activities are acceptable, and which ones aren’t. These guidelines are an important way that we can start to ensure all members of the Reface community can enjoy using the app and feel comfortable that this is a safe, respectful place for creativity and entertainment.
Responsibility works both ways
> ”...we want to ensure creators continue to take into account how their work influences and impacts others and the community overall.”
The future of Reface is exciting, ambitious and groundbreaking. You’ll see (soon). We’re really just scratching the surface in terms of what’s possible with synthetic media. And as we continue to roll out new features to users, the opportunities for creators will also continue to expand.
It’s at this point where it’s critical to set up guardrails for the community — both for the company and for users. With increasingly powerful tools and abilities, we want to ensure creators continue to take into account how their work influences and impacts others and the community overall. We’ve been blown away by the Reface creations, animations and face-swaps that have been shared with us and the world — it’s our dream the app will continue to power self-realization and expression through technology.
At the same time, we realize there will remain opportunities for abuse and misuse. We have outlined a number of these critical areas in our Community Guidelines — such content and activities by users will not be tolerated. These include: sexually explicit content, harassment and bullying, content involving minors, violence and hate speech, fake or misleading information, illegal content, support for terrorism and intellectual property infringement.
Keeping the community safe
> “These Community Guidelines help ensure that all interactions with Reface content — whether in the app by creators or anywhere else by others — are positive and fun.”
We view Reface as a playground — one that must be based on respect, safety and support. We also fully realize that content created with Reface is shared and lives on outside of our app. It can affect people who were not involved in its creation in important and potentially serious ways. These Community Guidelines help ensure that all interactions with Reface content — whether in the app by creators or anywhere else by others — are positive and fun. This, in turn, will help support the growth of Reface and the future of synthetic media.
What’s next?
We acknowledge that these Community Guidelines aren’t perfect, but they are moving us in the right direction. We will inevitably be updating them, including to ensure they remain relevant to the features and capabilities of the Reface app and how it’s being used. We welcome feedback from all creators, users, stakeholders and other interested parties at [email protected].
